Honorable Judges , Ladies and Gentlemen:
Good morning!
My topic is you laugh at me because I’m different, but I laugh at you because you are the same.
I'm contestent 27,. Guess what do I do for a living? While I tell others I’m a teacher, they all a little surprised:” Really? You don’t look like a teacher..so, where do you teach? Kindergarden? “ actually, I teach foreign students mandarin in a university. Last week a new guard of my department asked me a funny question when I was chatting and laughing with my students:”where are you from? Your Chinese is so good, why are you still studying here?” I answered with a little emberasment :”I’m a teacher here.”he was embrassed,to” oh,you look like a student!” so, what should a teacher look like? A serious face? Strict words? Formal suits? And always holding a book under one’s arm? That’s not me.
I love T-shirt and jeans. I enjoy sharing happiness with my students, I’d rather be their friend than a teacher, I’d rather help them find the way to their goal instead of feeding them knowledge. I’d rather teach them how to fish than just give them fish to eat.. since my students love me, enjoy my class and improve ,who cares what I look like or what I wear?
Spring is coming. The grass turns green and flowers blossom. What’s your favorite flower? Lily? Rose? Or tulip? Mine is white cherry flower. Let’s take a few moments to picture something in our minds: there are only cherry flowers blossoming, only one colour---white. One species, and only one kind of bird sings the same song on similar branches. Isn’t it boring? Happily for us,our world is not like that. You even can’t find two leaves that are exactly the same. How come human beings pursuit a uniformity? Well, most teachers hope their students are smart, behave well, get high marks in exams and always obey the teacher. But since we are born different, we all have our own personality, the mean idea of education is not training different people to be the same level, but to help different people find their own way to success. Just as Confuscius once said: good men are united but unique, bad men are the same but quarrel. We need to keep our own personality, we need different ways to be taught.some can learn by sight, some can remember things by hearing, some can get things by action. So as a teacher, I’ll encourage my students: don’t be afraid of being unique, you laugh at me because I’m different ,but I laugh at you because you are the same~!
Thank you!
